Ferrari has confirmed that Fernando Alonso will miss Saturday's qualifying session for the Monaco Grand Prix after crashing his car in the final practice period this morning. The Spaniard will now start Sunday's race from the pit lane.
Having been quickest in both practices on Thursday, Alonso was one favourite for this afternoon's pole position although the Spaniard will now be setting off from the pit lane on Sunday after losing control of his car and crashing at Massenet corner, damaging the right-hand side at both front and rear.
The crash also resulted in a cracked chassis - work which is estimated to take up to six hours to be repaired, although the Italian team was left with less than two and a half hours after the incident.
